Together We Rise
In recent years, Davidson has made tremendous strides to improve the Wildcat experience. Yet for all of us to rise together, the SGA will lobby the administration to:
1. Expand the reach of the Center for Career Development
“Expanding the reach” is all-inclusive: better representation of opportunities not geared toward finance or consulting; presenting opportunities in cities other than Charlotte, Atlanta, New York, or Washington; engaging students younger than juniors and seniors eagerly seeking the next opportunity. We hope to work with the Center for Career Development to gauge students’ areas of interests to better tailor their offerings to all of us.
4. Wellness Center
The current proposal for a Wellness Center devised by the SGA and the Health Advisers is a great start. We hope to improve on the specifics of the proposal in order to ensure that administrators will join us in noting the potential of this program to improve the state of mental of mental health on Davidson’s campus.
2. Work with the Town of Davidson to create a student EMT service to serve the campus during weekend nights
The current system of calling 911 for an EMT is too expensive for students, the College, and the Town of Davidson. Creating a student-run EMT system would be a way to help curb those excess costs, reduce the number of unnecessary ambulance transports, and take ownership of our campus’s problems with excessive drinking.
5. Make Summit a part of Meal Plan
Summit has a wealth of options that should be available to all students under our meal plan proposal. We propose to make this ideal a reality.
3. Mitigate the Housing Shortage for Students Studying Abroad in the Fall
The SGA needs to take a more proactive role in helping students studying abroad in the fall find housing upon returning. We need to first work with the administration seeing whether the revenue gained from filling those beds can be otherwise replaced. In addition, we need to work together to find other remedies in the meantime, such as facilitating the creation of a list of landlords friendly to Davidson students.
